Pharmacists have a role in deprescribing

Pharmacists Have a Role in Deprescribing From Pharmacy Practice News website, published Oct. 28: Pharmacists are in a good position to identify medications that can be discontinued — or “deprescribed” — for patients, and to manage this process. That was the main point of a presentation at the 2021 annual meeting of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Collin Clark, PharmD, a clinical associate professor at the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in New York, said there’s a strong argument to be made for including deprescribing as part of the pharmacist’s workflow. Dr. Clark pointed out that roughly 30 percent of adults age 65 and older receive one or more medications that carry more potential risks than benefits.
