2017 Leadership Summit & House of Delegates Meeting
   
The 2017 Leadership Summit and House of Delegates theme is Building Influence to Advance Patient Care and Practice. The program will be inspirational and motivational and provide you with the opportunity to network, learn and share with your peers throughout the day. The morning program will feature inspiring messages, new skill building communication tips, insights into the evolving value-based payment models, how pharmacists are being integrated into these models and what patient care outcomes are resulting. We will share MPhA and pharmacy’s advocacy successes in the afternoon, lay the groundwork for future initiatives at the House of Delegates, hear the State of MPhA from leadership, and install our new leadership for the year. We’ll close our day with a networking reception honoring our Past Presidents and MPhA volunteers. The day is designed to advance patient care and practice.
By participating, you will join your colleagues in advancing Minnesota pharmacy practice! You’ll be involved in discussions on important initiatives and pharmacy’s advocacy agenda and earn 3.25 continuing education credits.
The MPhA House of Delegates serves as the primary policy-making body for MPhA and determines the official positions for the organization on important issues. This governing body meets annually. Topics range from organizational issues (such as how the organization is structured) to professional issues (such as scope of practice and provider status) to public affairs issues (such as public positions on policy matters).
During registration, you’ll be asked if you are willing to serve as a delegate and for what district, academy, group or affiliation. MPhA strives to include you as a delegate to your preferred district, academy or group, however, we reserve the right to assign delegates as needed for full representation.
The House of Delegates annual business meeting will include recognizing member achievements through the MPhA leadership awards, installing new officers and board members, learning about strategic plan progress and committee achievements, and presenting and reviewing 2017 policy proposals. A number of important issues will be discussed. This is your time as a member to voice your opinions and shape your association!

In this dynamic TED-type talk, you will be challenged to think about the future you envision and think about steps you can take to make a difference to create that future.
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
- List significant recent wins in pharmacy practice expanding pharmacists' scope of practice.
- Explain how these wins are contributing to positive patient care outcomes.
- Identify areas within pharmacy practice for potential improvement in the near future (5 years) and list one way you will contribute to advocating for a change.
Playing the Cards Right when the Stakes Are High: A Strategic Communication Workshop

Think back to a time where communication played a critical role in forging (or saving) a relationship, advancing a project, or achieving a desired outcome. Consider: Did you find yourself choosing your words wisely? Were you thrown a curve ball and had to think on your feet to respond? Do you ever wonder that if things were said differently, you might have a different result? In this workshop, participants will learn tips for communicating in crucial moments and put their learning into practice with several role-playing scenarios. This workshop has been developed with the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society.
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
- Recall factors that indicate a crucial conversation.
- Execute leadership strategies for influential communication during role-playing scenarios pertinent to pharmacy practice.
- Appraise the strategic communication efforts of colleagues during crucial conversation role-playing scenarios.
- Develop a personal strategic communication plan to consider for use in future crucial conversations.
Preparing for Change: Understanding Value-Based Payment Models

Myriad government programs and policies drive today’s health care: Star Ratings, patient-centered medical homes, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, alternate payment models, Comprehensive Primary Care Initiatives, and the Part D Enhanced Medication Therapy Management program. Can the emerging value-based payment models spell success for you as a pharmacy practitioner, manager, or owner? Find out from your colleagues who have made these models work — and secured their place in the future of health care payment and delivery.

- Describe goals of value-based health care models.

Advancing Patient Care and Pharmacy: Meeting Minnesotans' Health Care Needs — Southern Prairie Community Care

Value-based care arrangements between payers, systems, and providers have evolved to meet Minnesotans' health care needs and continue to grow. Southern Prairie Community Care (SPCC) has built a multidisciplinary virtual network that is under contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services as an Integrated Health Partnership (IHP). In this capacity, SPCC serves as a Medicaid ACO and has included comprehensive medication management services across a variety of systems and providers as a key strategy to drive quality and outcomes for attributed members. Learn how SPCC has used innovative ways to create health care teams to meet the health needs of the communities they serve.
After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:
- Explain how SPCC is creating health care teams that serve the unique needs of local communities.
- Discuss examples of how pharmacists are being integrated into this care model, including the value proposition that supports pharmacists’ inclusion.
- Describe strategies to adapt the attendee’s pharmacy practice in order to participate in these new models.
