Wendy Augeson

MSN, RN, Integrated Care Program Director, Southern Prairie Community Care

Wendy directs the Southern Prairie Community Care (SPCC) Integrated Care Program staff that includes outreach representatives, integration coordinators, and licensed alcohol and drug counselors who are the front line staff delivering Integrated Care Program services in the region. She will be able to provide very good information about SPCC’s approach and process to Integrated Care and how SPCC has engaged pharmacists in Data Driven Intervention Strategies and Integrated Care Teams, and to share some success stories resulting from this work. She will also have some keen insights to share on how pharmacists in the community can best position themselves to work with entities like SPCC in IHP/ACO arrangements.


Michelle Aytay

Michelle Aytay graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1996 and has been practicing community pharmacy with direct patient care in Minnesota since that time. She currently advances clinical pharmacy services in her work with Walgreens. Her volunteer leadership roles span numerous organizations. Aytay serves as co-chair for the MPhA Public Policy Committee and as a member of the Pharmacy Advocacy Task Force. She is on the MPhA Board of Directors and Executive Finance Committee. She also serves as President of the Minnesota Pharmacists Foundation. She is active in numerous capacities at the College of Pharmacy, including serving as Pharmacy Alumni Society President and on the Century Mortar Club Board of Directors. She is a preceptor, residency director, mentor and Leadership Networking Partner. Aytay actively promotes the role of pharmacists in patients’ health through community involvement with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association. Her leadership has been recognized through numerous awards, most recently the University of Minnesota Pharmacy Alumni Society Distinguished Pharmacist Award. She also serves on the Minnesota Department of Health Pandemic Preparedness Taskforce.


Amanda Brummel

PharmD, BCACP, Director, Clinical Ambulatory Pharmacy Services, Fairview Pharmacy Services

Amanda Brummel, PharmD, BCACP serves as the Director of Clinical Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.  Dr. Brummel has been employed by Fairview Pharmacy Services since 1999 when she graduated from the University of Minnesota.  While at Fairview, she has built and practiced Medication Therapy Management (MTM) in multiple clinic locations, was the clinical supervisor for the MTM department, the MTM Operations & Program Manager.  Currently Dr. Brummel has responsibility for the MTM program, the clinical development and integration of ambulatory pharmacy services in the Fairview Health Network including transitions of care and quality outcome measurement.  She works closely with the Fairview Medical Group and the Fairview Network in our population health approach and new payer product development.  Dr. Brummel is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of MN.  She has published multiple articles on MTM and pharmacy’s role in the care team.  She has chaired and served on multiple committees and is a current member of the Minnesota Pharmacists Association (Board Member), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA).

Executive Director, Southern Prairie Community Care; Norris Anderson, MD, Medical Director, Southern Prairie Community Care (Invited)

Liz Cinqueonce joined Southern Prairie Community Care (SPCC) in 2014 and serves as Senior Vice President. In this capacity, she directs the Southern Prairie Center for Community Health Improvement, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. She also directs the SPCC State Certified Health Information Organization responsible for delivering health information exchange services to health care providers in the Southern Prairie region and beyond. Liz has more than 18 years of experience in organizational management, health policy, and government affairs. She previously served as Executive Vice President of the Minnesota Pharmacists Association after years of service as MPhA's Vice President of Public Affairs. Her experience includes five years in state government management, including deputy director positions in the Office of Health Information Technology and the Health Economics Program at the Minnesota Department of Health; and in the Performance Management and Quality Improvement Division at the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Liz earned her Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.


Kati Dvorak

PharmD, Pharmacist, FirstLight Health System, MPhA Speaker of the House

Dr. Kati J. Dvorak, Pharm D, graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy-Duluth in 2008. She completed an Ambulatory Care Residency with the University of Minnesota at Goodrich Pharmacy in 2009, specializing in Medication Therapy Management (MTM). At FirstLight Kati plays an essential role in expanding the MTM practice, precepting residents and working as part of the multidisciplinary team to create individual patient care plans. She cares for patients both in the hospital and in the community providing MTM. She is passionate about refining the transition of care process and severs on committees to improve continuity of care for our patients. Kati is an active member of the American Pharmacists’ Association (APhA) and currently serves as the Minnesota Pharmacists’ Association (MPhA) Speaker of the House.


Molly Ekstrand

RPh, BCACP, AE-C, Medication Management Program Leader, Park Nicollet Health Services

Molly Ekstrand is a pharmacist and leader of the Medication Management program in the Park Nicollet Health System in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area. She leads efforts to develop and implement the MTM program and infrastructure. In just 4 years, Park Nicollet has expanded to ten pharmacists (9.6 FTE) serving 16 primary care clinics, reaching over 800 patients each month. Ekstrand practiced MTM in Family and Internal Medicine clinics for over 10 years; she has provided and documented MTM services to thousands of patients.

Ernie Ruiz graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy in 2016. Since graduation, Ernie has worked for Express Scripts where he strategizes with clients to manage their pharmacy spend. He is excited to continue to stay involved with MPhA and help push pharmacy forward.


Lara Kerwin

PharmD, University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Care Leadership Resident

Lara Kerwin received her PharmD degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy in 2015. During pharmacy school, she developed her interest in professional advocacy, patient-centered care, and collaboration with faculty, students, and the community as part of APhA, Phi Lambda Sigma, and the Missouri Pharmacy Association.

Lara is currently in year two of the Pharmaceutical Care Leadership Residency at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Part of her second year involves building an ambulatory care pharmacy practice at a North Memorial primary care clinic as she has a passion for interprofessional collaboration and building long-term relationships with patients. At the College, she teaches in the Pharmaceutical Care Learning Center and enjoys working with students as a New Practitioner Mentor. After completing her residency, Lara envisions a career in academia in which she is able to teach and precept student pharmacists while innovating pharmacist-provided services in primary care. She plans to continue active involvement in local, state, and national organizations and pursue scholarly activities.

Outside of pharmacy, Lara enjoys listening to music and concert-going, playing trivia, exploring local sights, cheering on her Kansas City Royals, and spending time with friends and family.


 

Terry Hietpas

Pharmacist, ProPharma Group, MPhA Parliamentarian

Terry Hietpas, MS, PharmD, is a Pharmacovigilance Specialist with ProPharma Group in Saint Paul, MN as well as a community pharmacist at Cub in White Bear Lake, MN. He has past experience in long term care and hospital pharmacy. He served as MPhA Speaker of the House throughout much of the first decade of this century and has subsequently served that body as Parliamentarian for several sessions since. He has served in the APhA House of Delegates in several capacities including MPhA delegate, APhA-APRS delegate, a member of the New Business Review Committee, and member of the APhA-ASP Policy Committee as a student at the University of Minnesota. He is currently working towards Registered Parliamentarian status through the National Association of Parliamentarians.

Jeff Lindoo, RPh, grew up in the world of pharmacy. His earliest experience consisted primarily of reading comic books in the back of his Grandfather's and Father's pharmacy in rural Wisconsin. He later graduated to responsibility for emptying the trash and finally worked as a clerk, made fountain syrups, scrubbed the floors and worked as a technician (before the concept of technicians really existed) in the pharmacy, preparing prescriptions for his Father's final approval. He has been a member of MPhA since graduating from the NDSU College of Pharmacy in 1974. He worked his entire 42-year career in pharmacy for Thrifty White Pharmacies, serving in multiple positions and retiring in June of 2016. He is Immediate Past President of MPhA, serving on the Executive Committee and as co-chair of the Public Affairs Committee. He is a member of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy National Board of Advisors. He served on the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy from 1996 to 2000 and as Vice President in 1999. He is a former member of the Minnesota Retailers Association Board of Directors and Board Chair in 2010. He is also a member of APhA, ASCP and NCPA.


Doug Lobdell

Douglas C. Lobdell, R.Ph., M.S. was on staff with the American Pharmacists Association for over 15 years in a role in which he developed business partnerships between APhA and pharmacy companies, organizations, and institutions across the US and internationally. He also served on a number of strategic and advisory workgroups at APhA. Doug received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and a master of science in social & administrative pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy. He spent most of his 40 years in pharmacy in community based practice, where he managed, then owned, a “corner drugstore” in Bloomington, MN and worked in corporate management for a local retail pharmacy chain. He is a longtime member of MPhA, currently serving as the MPhA Secretary Treasurer (2013 to 2016) and was recently re-elected for another term. He is a life member of the Century Mortar Club at the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy and a life member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association.


Anthony W. Olson

Anthony Olson is pursuing a PhD in Social & Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota – College of Pharmacy, where he also earned a PharmD in 2015. He serves as the Post Graduate Officer-elect in the American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Pharmaceutical Research & Science and as Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Minnesota Pharmacists Association.


Jill Strykowski

Director of Pharmacy, Mercy & Unity Hospitals, Allina Health, Pharmacy Advocacy Task Force Co-Chair, MPhA Past President

Jill Strykowski received her Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Master of Science in Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota. Her Master’s thesis was entitled Implementation and Outcome Analysis of an Anticoagulation Clinic. Jill has written and lectured about various aspects of antithrombotic care; but importantly, it was through this work that she became passionate and interested in the potential of leadership of pharmacy practice. Jill is currently the Director of Pharmacy for Mercy Hospital and Unity Hospital in the 13-hospital Allina Health system. Jill has mentored PharmD-IV students and Residents for the last 15 years and has found this relationship to be the greatest joy in assisting young pharmacists in reaching their personal and professional goals. In 2013-14, Jill was elected President of the Minnesota Pharmacist Association. Over the course of the last 4 years, Jill has served as a co-chair for the Pharmacy Advocacy Task Force to advance legislative changes for the practice of pharmacy. Jill also serves as a member of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy National Board of Advisors. Additional interests include participation in global health using the practice of pharmacy to advance health care. Jill has traveled with pharmacy students and residents to Peru and Tanzania to assist with the provision of pharmacy services in resource-poor areas. Jill is also interested in health care public policy, patient safety initiatives, and new business opportunities for the profession that serve the needs of our communities through the practice of pharmacy.


Jason Varin

PharmD, Director Alumni Relations and Assistant Professor - Department of Pharmaceutical Care & Health Systems, University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, MPhA President-Elect 2018

Jason Varin earned his Bachelor's degree and PharmD from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. In addition to his work as Director of Alumni Relations and as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care & Health Systems at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, Varin serves as Pharmacist Ambassador at the University's Center for Leading Healthcare Change.
