MPhA Executive Director Sarah Derr was interviewed on KARE-11 TV News, Fox 9 TV News and KSTP-TV News, reporting on an increase in doses of COVID-19 vaccines being shipped to pharmacies across the state.
"I think it's giving us some good insight into how pharmacies can roll out vaccine once it's allocated to them," Dr. Derr said. "Last week we had 19 pharmacies that received at least 100 doses. We have three areas across the state where pharmacies received 500 doses per area to help with teachers and childcare providers."
“We have 95% of people that live within five miles of a pharmacy. So they are actually able to get the vaccine very readily and very much available if it's in the pharmacy,” Dr. Derr continued, “but we have to get that allocation out to the pharmacy in order to [vaccinate people].”
Dr. Derr urged people not to sign up on multiple lists as it adds time for pharmacists to contact everyone, and urged patients to visit pharmacy websites rather than phoning so that pharmacists are not overwhelmed by phone calls.
