New EPA Rule on Drug Disposal Now in Effect

Friday, August 30, 2019   (0 Comments)

From American Pharmacists Association, August 20: The first deadline of a new rule from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) took effect on Aug. 21. Under the new rule, certain drugs may no longer be disposed of by flushing down the drain or toilet. The rule applies to pharmacies and drug stores, supermarkets and other grocery stores, hospitals, health clinics and nursing care facilities, among others.

The new rule loosens regulations about disposal of some OTC nicotine replacement therapies. Pharmacists should be aware of the contents of the new rule.
