The Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum is a unique, three day, all-teach all-learn conference held in a simplistic retreat-like environment nestled in the natural winter wonderland of northern Minnesota. Each attendee is required to submit a session they would
like to present with their application. These engaging professional sessions are dovetailed with opportunities to connect with nature and be active.
The purpose of the Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum is to illuminate issues related to the practice of pharmaceutical care, foster collegiality among students, faculty and practitioners, and to invigorate the practice as the cornerstone of pharmacy. The
2023 Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum will provide an opportunity to reflect, collaborate, and develop next steps toward embracing new ideas and perspectives in our lives, which may include considering practice and care delivery changes since the COVID19
pandemic.

Conference Format and Logistics
The Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum is not a passive environment. Each attendee is not only encouraged but expected to be engaged and participate. However, the conference will be FUN – as thoughtful dialogue and FUN are not mutually exclusive!
The conference will be held at the Deep Portage Learning Center, 2197 Nature Center Dr NW, Hackensack, MN 56452. Deep Portage is a conservation and environmental learning center. The basic accommodations allow time for reflection and a new way of connecting
with each other and our environment. It’s approximately a 3.5 hour drive from the Twin Cities metro or 2.75 hours from Duluth. Transportation will not be provided, car-pooling is strongly encouraged. Additional information can be found at: www.deep-portage.org.
Rustic lodging, outdoor activities, meals and libations are included in the $199 registration fee. There will be ample opportunities to interact socially and enjoy indoor and outdoor activities (such as rock climbing, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing,
campfires, and more!).
Application and Session Submission Information The Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum is successful only when all participants are actively engaged, open and prepared to share ideas, challenge current practice, and envision what is possible.
This is achieved through discussion-based presentations, active learning groups, and the creation of an environment that is relaxed and allows for creativity.
The Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum will consist of selected presentations, activities, and discussions scheduled into 30 to 60 minute time slots. As a potential participant to the Pharmaceutical Care Lyceum, we ask that you submit an application describing
how you would like to use your allocated time to present your vision, generate discussion, and challenge the group. Content delivery / presentation should account for 50% or less of the time slot allowing for application and active participation
for the remainder of the time. Some example activities may include:

Although technology will be available (screen, projector), the use of active learning techniques versus traditional PowerPoint presentations is preferred. Internet connection and adequate speakers (sound for videos) are possible, but not reliable and
we recommend choosing sessions that minimize or eliminate these requirements. Please be thoughtful when completing your application and keep your submission to no more than 2 pages. Include a session description, requested session length, and
2-3 learning objectives. In your application, please include each applicant’s full name, email address, and a short biosketch (a one paragraph summary of academic, work, and professional or lived experiences). Please see attached application
form.
Group and individual applications will be accepted. Group applications should include 4 or fewer group members and should include a description of how each team member will contribute to the group’s presentation. For first time participants,
challenge yourselves to think beyond what you currently know and see in pharmaceutical care. For previous attendees, look beyond your current practices and previous experience at the Deep Portage discussions and come up with new ideas to share and
shape our future. Because time on the agenda is limited, your session may not be selected for presentation, but you may still be invited to attend and actively engage in the conference as space permits.
We have included several thought-provoking questions to consider as you develop your submission. For more discussion questions, check out Adam Grant’s discussion guide: https://adamgrant.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/ThinkAgainDiscussionGuide.pdf
- What forecasts about the future are you making, and how can you stay open to rethinking them?
- What have you learned about fostering task conflict without causing relationship conflict?
- What are your favorite ways to find common ground across differences?
- When giving advice, how do you reinforce the other person’s freedom of choice?
- How can we change the cultural narrative about rethinking? Can you imagine a world in which saying “I don’t know” is seen as a mark of confident humility instead of ignorance and “I was wrong” is viewed as an act of integrity rather than an admission
of incompetence?
*Note: It is not required to read the book Think Again prior to the Lyceum. As a presenter, please keep in mind that not all attendees will have read the book.
To apply for the conference, submit your completed application form to PCareLyceum@gmail.com by November 7th.
You will be notified at the end of November whether your application has been accepted for presentation.
Additionally, please email for more information or to discuss your ideas with us if desired.
