62W Proposed Rules and PBM Update

Free for members; $20 for Non-Members

Description:

This session will provide an update on the status of the long-awaited proposed rules for Chapter 62W, the PBM legislation passed in 2019, and any other current PBM-related issues going into the 2022 legislative session.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the outline of the Commerce Department's progress on promulgating rules for the PBM legislation passed in 2019

  2. Understand the key comments on the proposed rules presented to Commerce by MPhA

  3. Review the key rebuttals by MPhA to comments from the PBM industry

  4. Describe the remaining steps necessary to complete the rulemaking process.

Speakers:

Jeff Lindoo, RPh Retired and Buck Humphrey, Hill Capitol Strategies

Jeff LindooJeff Lindoo, RPh, grew up in the world of pharmacy. His earliest experience consisted primarily of reading comic books in the back of his Grandfather’s and Father’s pharmacy in rural Wisconsin. He later graduated to responsibility for emptying the trash and finally worked as a clerk, made fountain syrups, scrubbed the floors, and worked as a technician (before the concept of technicians widely existed) in the pharmacy, preparing prescriptions for his Father’s final approval. He has been a member of MPhA since graduating from the NDSU College of Pharmacy in 1974. He worked for Thrifty White Pharmacies from 1974 until his retirement in 2016 and served as staff pharmacist, Pharmacy Manager, Store Manager, District Manager, Vice President of Long Term Care Services and as Vice President of Governmental & Regulatory Affairs. He is a Past President of MPhA and serves as co-chair of the MPhA Public Affairs Committee. He served on the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy from 1996 to 2000. He is a past member of the Minnesota Retailers Association Board of Directors and served as MNRA Board Chair in 2010. He is also a member of APhA and NCPA.


Buck HumphreyBuck Humphrey is an experienced government affairs and public relations executive with relationships and a track record with political leaders in Minnesota, the Midwest and the nation’s capital. For more than 25 years, Buck has worked at the intersection of the private and public sectors on issues at the federal, state and local levels. He has worked with governors and legislative leaders. Buck has been on the lobbying team that has passed MAC transparency provisions, the new insulin safety net program and built a bipartisan patient pharmacy network access coalition. He is an experienced lobbyist, knowledgeable about our issues and with a strong desire and commitment to move our agenda.

6:15 – 7:30 pm: Welcome/Presentation 

7:30 – 8:00 pm: Town Hall 

Continuing Education:

This presentation is being submitted to the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy for Continuing Education credit approval (one hour).

To receive Board of Pharmacy credits for this program, the following must be completed:

  • Full participation/completion of webinar either during the live program or the archived presentation

  • Completion of survey post webinar acknowledging participation

Board of Pharmacy credit processing takes place on the 15th of each month.

The Minnesota Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
