APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is based on national educational standards for immunization training from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This practice-based curriculum represents a fusion of science and clinical pharmacy. The program, which emphasizes a health care team approach, seeks to foster the implementation of interventions that will promote disease prevention and public health. The purpose of this certificate training program is to prepare pharmacists with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide immunization services to patients across the life span.

The goals of this program are to:

Educate pharmacists about:

• The impact of vaccines on public health.
• Pharmacists’ roles in immunization.
  
• Immunologic principles of vaccine development and immunizations.
• Vaccine-preventable diseases and the vaccines used to prevent them.
• Strategies for improving immunization rates.
• Requirements for pharmacists who provide immunization services.

Prepare pharmacists to:

• Read an immunization schedule and identify appropriate vaccines for individuals across the life span
  and with special needs.
• Educate patients about the benefits of vaccines and dispel myths about vaccines.
• Safely administer vaccines to patients via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intranasal, and intradermal
  routes.
• Operate an immunization service in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
• Partner with immunization stakeholders to promote immunizations and the immunization neighborhood.

Direct pharmacists to resources necessary to:

• Promote public health through immunizations.
• Access regularly updated information about vaccines and their use.
• Effectively communicate with patients and other stakeholders about resources.
• Operate an immunization service in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

Accreditation Information

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy
Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The home-study portion of the Pharmacy-
Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is approved for 12 contact hours (1.2 CEUs) of
continuing pharmacy education credit (UAN 0202-9999-20-179-H06-P). The live training seminar is approved for 8
contact hours (0.8 CEU) of continuing pharmacy education credit (UAN 0202-9999-20-180-L06-P).

Initial Release Date: March 30, 2020

Expiration date: March 15, 2023 - PLEASE NOTE: NO Home Study credit granted after this date; Live Credit can
only be granted within 60 days from the day of the seminar attended.

Activity Completion Requirements

To obtain credit for "Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery" complete home study activities, complete both home study and final assessments with a grade of 70% or better, attend the live seminar, successfully complete the injection technique assessment, complete the evaluation, and CLAIM credit. To obtain credit, the Learner must CLAIM credit once each component is completed. Once credit is claimed, Transcripts of CPE will be available online within 24 hours on the Learner’s CPE Monitor profile. The Certificate of Achievement will be available online upon successful completion of the necessary activity requirements on the participant’s “My Training” page on www.pharmacist.com.

Virtual Training Consent

The APhA Certificate Training Program hosted by Fairview Pharmacy Services/MPhA will be offered in a virtual format. Zoom Video Conferencing will be used to deliver the live session.

By registering for this program, you agree to participate in the live portion of the course by using active video and audio feed through your computer or mobile device.

Live Program Requirements

The Live Seminar portion on Friday, January 29, 2021, will be conducted virtually online. The
registrants must:

• Join Zoom Meeting by computer, tablet, or any mobile device
• Must have a working camera and have video enabled throughout the entire program
• Must be present for the entirety of the program to be eligible for completion of the certificate training
• There is a Zoom app that can be downloaded on mobile devices through the App Store or Google Play. Search for Zoom Cloud Meetings app.
• If planning to use a MacBook, Macbook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, etc., please navigate to https://zoom.us/ (using the Mac computer that will be used for the Zoom session), click on the Download link a the right side of the screen, download and install/run the installer program (named Zoom.pkg).
• Join the meeting 15-30 minutes early to test that your microphone and camera is working properly and

Injection Technique Assessment

By registering for this program, you agree to complete the skills assessment in person at Fairview Pharmacy Services corporate office; 711 Kasota Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414, on Saturday, January 30, 2021, or at another mutually agreed upon time and place.

In order to comply with capacity limitations of our training facility, a sign-up link will be emailed to participants after registration and payment. The participant will choose a 1-hour time slot to come to 711 Kasota Ave S.E., Minneapolis, MN for their injection technique assessment.

*APhA permits “Any medical professional who has the scope of practice to immunize” to assess the injection technique. An immunizing pharmacist, a nurse, and in some states, a medical technician can observe you demonstrate the technique if they are willing to watch a short training video and sign the injection assessment form to indicate it was done correctly. Please contact Laurie Deegan at ldeegan1@fairview.org to make alternate assessment arrangements.

Credit for completion of the certificate program will only be granted to participants who complete the self-study requirements, are verified as physically present throughout the duration of the live session, complete the skills process with a passing assessment, and receive a passing score on the online post-test.

Schedule of requirements and other important details:

1. Complete self-study before Friday, January 29, 2021
2. Attend live virtual training on Friday, January 29, 2021
3. Complete injection technique assessment on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 711 Kasota Ave SE,
   Minneapolis, MN or if alternate assessment arrangements are made by Saturday, February 6, 2021
4. Complete final exam and evaluation and claim certificate by Monday, February 15, 2021.

Refund Policy: All cancellations received by January 15, 2021, will receive a 50% refund minus a $150 administrative fee. Cancellations received after January 15, 2021, will not receive a refund.

Program may be cancelled by co-hosts if minimum enrollment is not met. Individuals will be notified by January 15, 2021 and will receive a full refund minus the $150 administrative fee as the 12 self-study CE credits will remain active.
