Medical Cannabis Primer and Minnesota Program Update
Description
In 2014 Minnesota became the 22nd state to legalize cannabis for medical use and the Minnesota program is different than many others in the United States. In this presentation we will discuss the history of cannabis, including how it became a Schedule 1 controlled substance, the pharmacology of cannabis and an overview and update on the Minnesota Medical Cannabis Program. The talk will also look at the unique role pharmacists plays in the Minnesota Program.
Objectives
- Review the history of cannabis
- Understand the endocannabinoid system and how THC and CBD affect CB1 and CB2 receptors.
- Discuss the pharmacology of cannabis.
- Provide an overview and update on the Minnesota Medical Cannabis Program, including qualifying conditions and program statistics.

Amy Bjork
Amy Bjork is a registered clinical pharmacist, with over 20 years of experience in the industry, who attended Drake University and received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Amy currently works at LeafLine Labs providing medical cannabis education and care for patients throughout Minnesota. Before joining the LeafLine Labs team, Amy worked in a variety of pharmacy settings, including retail, management, compounding, and medical cannabis.
